I am 99% sure that I am going to buy a Sawstop 1.75hp PCS. I am looking at the fence options and I’m torn between the 30” rip capacity with the premium fence and the 36” rip capacity with the t-glide fence. I looked at both of them in Woodcraft and I’m sure the 30” will be fine for me today. However, if I decide to upgrade later, it will cost a lot more than the $170 it will cost me now. I am already going over budget (hence the dilemma) with the Sawstop but I decided the safety feature is worth it. I also plan for this to be a “forever saw.”

I found a post from 2012 asking the same question:
http://lumberjocks.com/topics/40277

The general consensus then was to go with the t-glide. So what do you think in 2017? If I get the 30” will I regret it and pay more to upgrade it later?

Thanks

Get the T-glide. pennies in overall cost, and worth it.

I own a PCS 175, with 36” T-glide.

The premium is ok. T glide is better.

Yep, get the Tglide. You will be much happier in the long run. I own a PCS 3hp with the 36” and it is a pleasure to use every time. Once set up and aligned, it is super accurate and hasn’t needed any adjustments in the 2 years I have owned it.

Get the T-glide. The premium stays and clamps square but I have this little nag in the back of my mind because it is so light. I had the Delta T-2 on my old saw and just miss that mass.

The fence is so important…get the T-glide. I have that fence and love it.

T glide. I would recommend that style fence for any saw, whether it be an old craftsman or new Powermatic.

The T-Glide is a much better fence. The “Premium” fence is sort of a misnomer IMO….it more like “OK” or “Functional”, but those names don’t market well! ;-)

I have a PCS with the T-glide so that’s what I’m used to. After looking at the entry level fence it looked pretty cheap by comparison. I don’t know how it functions with day-to-day use, but I know you’d be happy with the T glide fence.

p.s. I also think the 36” rip capacity is much better. I went with the 52” rails, but looking back on the decision, 36” probably would have been fine.

T-Glide. I have the 3hp PCS and the T-Glide is rock solid. It’s like the T2 fence only beefier. You will not regret extending your budget for this upgrade.

I’m sad you’re on the other side of the country… I’d offer to trade you my 36” + $100 for your 52” rails.

I walked into Rockler, with the intent of giving them all my money for the SS contractor. After playing with the fence on the showroom floor, I walked away broken hearted. How could a $1600 base price saw come with such a weak fence? Luckily, my girlfriend said… “can you just get this saw with that fence? (Pointing at the PCS 52” on display)”. Duh! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. The sales guy disappeared, and came back to let me know they can get the CNS-175 with the 36” fence in a week. It was $200 more but the 30” fence is crap.
