Been putting all the hinges in the boxes for the football team, and the 5/64 vix I am using for the #2 screws is plugged tight about every other hole.
I am only drilling about a 1/4 inch into maple. I have tried spraying the bit with silicone lube but to no effect.
Is there a trick that I am missing or is this just the way it is.

I certainly love the self centering, especially when doing 28 boxes so 224 holes – but picking out the chips with an exacto every other hole gets old.

Appreciate anyones solutions for this.

Sometimes I plunge the vixie bits into a 3/16” hole in my workbench, then run the drill for a couple of seconds with the spring fully compressed.. I really think the housing bore tends to get tapered after a while.
