I’ve been getting a lot of CNC jobs in lately and go through a lot of router bits – sometimes 6 in one day. Resetting the Z between those changes was getting annoying so I came up with this system to eliminate that. Now I can change a bit then hit “start” immediately and let the machine get back to work.

Here’s a video I’ve made showing how it works. Those of you with auto tool-changers won’t have any use for it but I’d appreciate feedback from those who have manual systems. Am I the only one that thinks this is fantastic or does everyone else think it looks handy?

The tool board in the video is new. I just finished that up today. The actual gauges I’ve been using for a few months. Since mine are wood, they aren’t precise to .001” but for my purposes, they work.

Looks like you’r business is doing well? Better than having a machine sit idle. I’m a long way from a cnc at this time but thanks for posting.

It’s going well. I’m getting a healthy mix of repeat production orders and one-off custom furniture jobs. Last week was the first time I had both CNC machines running simultaneously for a full day.

excellent idea. I am always thinking about quick change tooling and other setup aids for my shop too. They bring greater speed and accuracy. Well done!
