Hello -

I recently picked up an old Craftsman planer, model 112.23490. I am planning to do a complete restore, but had a question.

The gearbox on the side seems to be quite wobbly. It certainly isn’t going to fall off or anyting, but does rock from back to front a fair amount. The planer is in good working order, so it doesn’t seem to be a real problem, just wondering if this is common on this machine. The infeed, cutter and outfeed rollers aren’t loose or anything, just the gearbox itself shifts around.

For fun, here are few pics of the planer. I’m excited to get it looking like new again.

I seen one posted locally and did some research on it as I hadn’t heard of that brand. I believe I remember reading that the drive mechanism had some play in it.

Have your say...
