Hello, I am new here, and in the process of starting up my worskhop. I recently came across a DD37 planer for $150, and am concerned it may need a little work (on craigslist, there are steals, and then there are deals, and then there is crap… I’m pretty sure this is somewhere between the first two…). Does anyone know how easy it is to find replacement parts for this unit? I’ll have my hands on it later today, so I should have a better feel for its condition.

Also, has anyone had any experience with these? I’ve read that many of the auto-feed planers of this timeframe were all basically the same, but I’ve read some people say the reliant ones were not “precision.” Are there inherent problems I should be aware of, or is this just a case of people that didn’t set it up right not getting good results?

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

although i don’t have the exact same unit, most of these 4 post 15” planers from Taiwan seem to be very similar. you should be able to source parts through ebay and grizzly. i love mine but i do miss the portability of a smaller unit.

make sure you see it running and everything is working and moving. check out the bed for any irregularities/cracks…
if all checks out, $150 seems to be a great deal
