So I was fortunate enough for the wife to agree for me to buy the Grizzly G0490X 8” with spiral cutting head. Unfortunately it was on backorder till mid August but yesterday I called and it has been pushed back till mid September. The $1350 shipped is the top of my budget so there isn’t really anything else out there in that range. Anyone else have any luck with early delivery?

I have been waiting on the same jointer, for several months now. With a project looming i just jumped on a used Delta DJ20 with upgraded Byrd Shelix cutterhead. I will be picking it up tonight. Keep your eyes on craigslist, you never know when something will pop up…

I waited 4 months for my G0490X. It was delayed about a month from the time they first told me I should have it. Ive had it about a month now and use it everyday.

orion7144, that is how craigslist seems to work. All you see is junk 99.9% of the time, and when something good comes up it goes fast. I saw this add within a few hours of it being posted thank goodness.

Good luck, I am sure that when the grizzly arrives you will be glad you waited.

Since the JET’s are on sale right now do you guys think it is work cancelling the Grizzly for the JET 718200K Model JWJ-8CS? It does not have the spiral cutter head and is a bit cheaper.

What part of the world are you in?
Chicago area cl has a Porter 16” for $1800
Wadkin 9” for $750
Powermatic 8” $1050
Milwaukee cl has a Delta 8” for $600

And I make cajun smoked andouille sausage. Might be worth a road trip

I can’t understand how a company like grizzly would ever have to back order a jointer.

I don’t agree with buying a jointer online and waiting so long.
Inspecting a jointer before you buy is a very good advantage. If you don’t have a good reliable straight edge ask to see the machines make two good edges on piece of maple or white wood.
Hold them together and look for any gaps.
Big gaps would be bad -little gaps better -no gaps great.

I’ve had my 8” Grizzly spiral cutter for a little over a year. I’ve ran a lot of figured walnut, sycamore, maple and so on and am still tickled with its performance.

The long bed is a spoiler. The other day, I split a friends 12’ redwood bench seats, where the joint was failing. Then, I ran the two pieces on the jointer. They joined nicely and he’s back in backyard BBQ business again.

It’s worth the wait for a spiral and a long bed.

Well I couldn’t wait. I called the local Rockler and asked if they had the JET 6” with the QS knifes and they had one in stock. With the Jet sale everyone has it on sale plus the 10% jet sale makes it worth it. When I got it home I was glad since I assumed an 8” would fit but in my small shop I am not so sure since this fits just fine with no room to spare. With the quick set knifes ( Rockler was great at showing me how easy it was compared to normal ones) it will eliminate some of the hesitation from dropping the helical. I don’t do many big projects so this should work fine.

I placed my order for the Grizzly G0490X 8” with spiral cutting head back in May 2017 and it was back ordered. I was told it would be delivered in October, the month came and went and still no jointer. When I called them, I was told it was back ordered till December. I even sold my 6” jointer to have enough money to make the purchase. I’m extremely frustrated, but no other 8” Jointer come close to matching the price. I have other grizzly machines and they are good quality. I think I will be very satisfied once I get it, but the wait is excruciating…..

I tired of waiting on Grizzly and bought a Steelex ST1011 with the helical head for $1150 and am perfectly happy with the cut and performance. I think CPO outlet has them for $1189 with free shipping now.

Same here. Got it a few weeks ago and just finished installing my 220 outlet last night. Gonna give it a go this weekend. Same machine as the Grizzly but one more year on the warranty.
