Veritas’s PMV-11 blades for old Stanley/Record planes don’t fit in Lie-Nielsen planes.

Someone should offer a services that re-grinds the lateral adjustment level registers so they can fit. I don’t have time for that sh—.

I emailed them asking about it, they said they won’t ever do it. Since L-N is not offering this steel (which may be proprietary to Veritas, not sure), seems like they’re leaving some potential customers high-and-dry.

Seems like those two makers avoid stepping on eachothers toes, but this strikes me as a case where Veritas would not be in-the-wrong.

I agree my user planes are LN and I really don’t care for A2 steel or the o1. If I ever get to test out Lee valleys PM 11 steel and like it I just might sell off my LN.
I had a set Ln chisels didn’t care for them at all.

Yeah. Since L-N doesn’t offer PMV-11, why not let us buy it? They think we should retool our shops to get at better steel blades?

They clearly think it is superior and differentiated, so why deprive us?

You can purchase a replacement iron/chip breaker from IBC that will allow you to use any blade you choose on older planes. I’m not sure if the chip breaker is sold separately, but you can always sell the iron if not needed. Or give it to a friend :)

IBC Tools

Woodcraft carries these, but I think at a higher price.

My LN #4 1/2 and #3 both have PM-Vll blades in them. They fit out of the box.

I imagine that, if you are having a problem, it is likely because you are also using the Veritas chipbreaker as well. That does not work with the LN planes. Only the LN chipbreaker will do so as the adjuster slot is 1/4” further back than other makes.

Interesting/weird…

After viewing posts/youtubes noting that the PMV-11 irons don’t fit LN planes, I emailed Lee Valley and specifically asked if they would fit LN planes, and they replied that they do not. So I am confused.

So you’re using an LN chipbreaker? The chipbreaker had no issues mating with the PMV-11 blades?

Given their reply, I did not order PMV-11 irons, I only have it on my PMV-11 chisels thus far.

Thanks

builtinbkyn,

To be clear, I have Lie-Nielsen planes (complete with LN blades and chipbreakers), and I want to use PMV-11 irons.

Derek,

Are you using the PMV-11 blades designed for Veritas planes, or the ones designed to fit old Stanley/Record planes? Thanks
