Topic tags/keywords: question teak

So I got my hands on this Teak,

As you can see, they are mainly blocks. I’ve used some already and made this gorgeous end grain cutting board,

I thought about using all the Teak I have just for cutting boards because they are short blocks and I don’t know what else to make with them. I usually make things to sell, but I’m open to creating something for myself. What’s your input? Keep making end grain cutting boards? Do you got some awesome ideas? What’s the best thing to do with this Teak?

I also have these 2×2’s that are teak. They range from 6’-12’. Ideas?

I’m not sure, but I’m assuming you are talking about lathe work? What sizes are turning blanks sold at?

Take it to a nearby school and park right next to a dumpster. Pretend like you’re throwing it away and about 10 people will rush over and ask if they can have it.

That’s a good strategy IF the surrounding neighborhood were wood workers. They immediately recognize the value and a sinister smirk would be on my face.

Mmm I love the way teak makes my shop smell. The other use for shorts are cooking utensils like the flat stir spoons.
But I’ll warn ya people love them and they are boring as hell to make.
What glue did you use on the cutting board?

I love the smell of teak too. Its kind of a weird smell, but I guess I’m weird too.

I use nothing, but Titebond III on my boards. If I work with Teak, I”ll glue the faces ASAP after running them through the drum sander.

I know us turners love to have wood. There are two catagories of which we use. Spindle turning and bowl work. Spindle is going with the grain and bowl or face work is done against the grain.

This is what me and the other disabled vets like me I teach wood turning to use the most

Spindle work

1. 2×2x12 making eggs, ornaments and such
2. 2.5×2.5×12 or 3×3x12 for goblets, small boxes, pepper mills and so on
3. 4×4x6 and up for boxes

Bowls

1. 5×5x2 to 5×5x3
2. 6×6x2 up to 6×6x4
3.7×7x2 to 7×7x3
4. 8×8x2 to
5.10×10x2 to 10×10x4
6. 12×12x2 to 12×12x5
7. 14×14x2 to 14×14x6

I do not know if you wish to sell some and it depends on the cost but I might like to get some for the Vets and I like I said depending on the cost

I make canes so I see handles in the blocks and shanks in the 2×2s.
