Topic tags/keywords: ups jointer delivery grizzly

Well I took off today from work because jointer was suppose to be delivered. I waited from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the house phone by my side. It was 6:30 and still no phone call from the UPS driver. I called the dispatch at 6:30 and was told I was next on his list, the last one, should take about 30 minutes. I wait till 8:00 pm and call back. I was told the driver had been trying to call my cell phone (which I did not give the guy last Friday to call) and he had turned back to knoxville to take it back to the depot.

After talking to several people they just insisted it would have to be delivered on Thursday even though we are expecting an ice storm Thursday morning. They lady didn’t know what to say when I told her that my house phone was by my side all day, she just said he called this phone number 3x. I then told her, I took the precaution of forwarding my cell phone to my house phone in the event something like this could happen. I didn’t receive any phone calls on my cell phone today and only 3 on the house phone from my family.

The UPS driver either called the wrong phone number because I tested the fowarding to make sure or he’s just flat out lied.

Either way, look like it’s going to be another week before I get my jointer and i’m afraid i’m going to have to call grizzly to have it shipped back to them due to damage.

So I guess I just needed to vent some more :)

Thanks for listening.

I feel your pain, very disapointing. I have good luck with UPS an Fedex, but problem is with usps here. They never bring packages to the house, just leave a slip in the box, so it always takes a day longer to get a usps package.
I certainly would not be very happy either, if that happened to me.

I was told by a Fedex driver that their areas are bid on by independent people, not workers for Fedex, so they own the area they serve. UPS drivers work for UPS. I would think you would get better service from FEdex as the driver has a personal interest in the outcome. I will say I have good drivers on both UPS and FEDEX.

I’ve purchased a jointer and a lathe from grizzly. Both were delivered by a freight truck (don’t remember which service). I was delighted with the quick and convenient delivery.

As an FYI – both machines were quite heavy. I backed up my pickup to the back of the semi-trailer in the street. The driver was very helpful in getting the heavy boxes down to my pickup bed. Of course then the challenge of getting the machine into my shop was all mine. Thank goodness I have strong friends.

UPS and Fedex ground know be on a personal basis for the most part here. I guess because I order so much stuff online, lol.

Now USPS i’m not quite fond of either where I live. It just depends on the driver which we’ve had probably 4 in the past 3 years.

Now last time I had it shipped from Grizzly it came from Knoxville, TN like this one did. Just got a call back 5 minutes ago with the lady apologizing, said driver called at 3:00 and 6:30. He didn’t call the number i’m pretty sure since I had the phone within 10 feet from me all day long. Last time the guy was very helpful and no problems at all.

Suppose to get a call tomorrow from UPS.
