Hello, wondering if anyone has any experience with or insight into the T series heads from Grizzly. They’re cheaper than Byrd and even the original Grizzly spirals (helical and indexed). They are obviously a different design than their original helical, but I have no idea if that has trade offs.

For instance, the T27697 is just $275 for the Delta SJ-20. The planer head for my Reliant DD-37, T27695, is out of stock right now, but it’s $480.

Are these inferior in any measurable way? Anything I should know about before pulling the trigger?

Thank you.

I’m wondering the same thing. I’d love to stick one in my older PM Model 60 8” jointer.

Hopefully the person who responds (if they ever do) won’t be one of those who “helped” uncle Arthur with his table saw arbor problem.

I can’t speak about the 8”, but I just finished installing the 6” in my Delta 37-180. I posted a review on it. I thought it was nicely built and cuts well.

Ya mean like this?

“We are happy to assist you. The Grizzly T27697 cutterhead is based on the same design as the H8803 but they are not the same. The Shelix cutterhead H8803 of course is more expensive. They both will fit your machine.

You are more than welcome to place an order through our website, www.grizzly.com, or by calling our Customer Service at 1-800-523-4777. Operators are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.”

Ok I finally figured it out. It’s a Byrd Shelix knock-off and thus can’t be called a Shelix. I’m ordering them.

Yeh, I mean like that. Go back and read the entire thread about unclearthurs problems with the arbor on his saw. Please read far enough to find the posts where other Lumberjocks had contacted Grizzly to support him and got replies that stated that unclearthurs problem had been resolved and that they had replaced his saw. Not true. He had to pack up the saw and return it himself at his own expense and they apparently did not provide a replacement. I have no way to positively confirm any of the claims made in that stream of posts, but it all rings true to me. I do not doubt that they would send you a message saying “You are more than welcome to place an order”. Will they stand behind the product after you have paid for it? Caveat Emptor.

The planer head was back-ordered through the end of aug (at least) but the planer head was in stock. Extra cutters. I ordered both to get the sale price. The next day I got an email saying both are back-ordered. Ugh. Can’t wait to see how many shipments I get and how they handle shipping costs now.

I’m excited about the planer head mostly. I think it will give me much better results when the grain changes.

Hello! I’m new here. I have a quick question… I have an opportunity to purchase a DD37 for $150. Is it worth it? I was told it was working before disassembly (someone moved it), but needs new belts (and I’m assuming new blades)... So I’m guessing all in I’d be around $400.

I’m also a little worried about parts replacements (rollers, etc.)

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Can you do me a favor and start a new thread for this? While you’re doing that research the cost of the parts. I can’t believe it’s that much. I’d get it.

This is not a review, but I figured I’d post a before and after video after switching to the grizzly knock-off today on my jointer. Not professional video quality but maybe better than nothing…

I’ll post a review after I get to use it for a bit.

If the Grizzly version is what came on my 8” long bed, I’m real happy with its performance and woudl say it’s a good investment.

Have your say...
