OK, I have to gloat a bit, I have been wanting to replace the 9 inch Delta band saw I had with a bigger one. I really was going to get a Rikon but…Amazon has the Jet 14 inch band saw (deluxe version) for 599, no tax, free shipping. Then Jet has a free fence and miter gage offer plus a 50 dollar rebate. I couldn’t resist any longer and pulled the trigger on it last Monday, it arrived yesterday which in my opinion is pretty good for free! I have it together, everything was there in pristine condition and tomorrow I’ll tune her up and see what it does.

I think I am going to add the riser block and go with Timber Wolf blades what are your opinions on that?

Congrats on the saw. Getting new tools is one of the benefits of this hobby. Having a new tool on order gives you a level of anticipation just like you had when you were 10 years old and couldn’t wait for Christmas.

I just put in a 14” Powermatic after Christmas and glad I put on a riser block. If you aren’t going to be doing any resawing then you many not need it but I have a firm philosophy that it is better to have a tool and not need it than to need it and not have it. Go for the riser block.

I put a Timberwolf blades on the saw (just toss the blade that comes with it. It will be a piece of junk) and couldn’t be happier with the cut.

Have fun.

Way to go, Dan. I can imagine how happy you are. I have that little 9” Delta, too. It comes in handy for some things, but is pretty much a toy in comparison to a full-sized bandsaw.

Very nice Dan. You are going to have to do a review once you are up and running. You will find
a world of difference from your 9”.

Look in the Reviews section for bandsaw blades and you will see reviews there.

I use the Wood Slicer from Highland Hardware so I can’t say anything about the Timber Wolf.

Thanks guys, I am excited. I an curious as to what blade to use for resawing, seems that 3 teeth per inch sticks in my head but can’t remember for sure. Does that seem right?

I know I saw an article on resawing somewhere but can’t seem to find it. Oh, and that is one of the big reasons to upgrade, that is to have the ability to resaw lumber!

Charlie, for a little saw I sure got a lot of use out of the Delta, I just took it to my Father-in-law this evening, hopefully he will find some good uses for it too.

Dan – good stuff!

I have the 14” jet, with the riser and use the Timberwolf blades. I resaw with a 3tpi, hook, 1/2” blade, and use a 6tpi, hook, 1/4” blade for everything else. I really like ‘em…

Good for you Dano! Get the riser block. I just got a Wood Slicer based on comments on this forum. I haven’t installed it yet (due to temperature and that it is in an unheated garage.)

Well, I haven’t even had the saw 3 days and just ordered the riser block and a mobile base from Amazon. Now I am off to find a couple of new blades, I think Highland will supply me a Wood Slicer for resawing and another for daily use probably in the 3/8 inch width.

I did tune it up today and there is a thunk or clinking sound which I have blamed on the blade. It does cut however and I did play with some scrap but will wait until the new blades get here for serious work. I plan on doing a review shortly.
