If you had $1,300 burning a hole in your pocket and were in the market for a new bandsaw which one would you get? I’ve been bouncing back and forth between the Laguna 1412 and Rikon 10-36. I am strictly a hobby woodworker but like nice tools that are user friendly and perform without much hassle.

I had an INCA 310 for many years and it’s
a sweet little 10” saw. Probably more refined
than the Rikon, but I also had a 20” Delta
set up for straight cuts with a 1” wide blade.

I would really recommend the larger saw
if you can just have one.

A fine band saw can open up woodworking
to the user. A saw that cuts true can cut
tenon cheeks, resaw, cut dovetails, etc.

Laguna, whatever people say about them,
has been in the steel-frame band saw
business for a long time.

With that money you can buy a 19 inch Grizzly. Go big or go home.

Stay as far away from Rikon as possible, I’d surely go for the Laguna. Another way to go is to look into getting an older model Powermatic or the Delta. Have fun make some dust. Used Delta 14” can be had most anytime for 400.00 or under and has been the standard of the industry for years.

Between the Laguna and Rikon that you asked about, I have a couple friends that will swear by their Rikons. I don’t know anyone with a Laguna.

I am pro Laguna. 6 years ago,I purchased the Power Matic 14 w/riser block, especially after Charles Neil pumped it up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r5NUVBjL4o&t=223s&ab_channel=woodcraftmarketing This was/is a time that people like CN and Stumpy Nubs operate as “gorilla marketers”, working for the tool companies interest- so beware of these type of hucksters. The Power Matic works but the “workings or features” of a Laguna or Rikon put the Power Matic as a dinosaur.

I’d look for at least a 20” vintage saw.

I have had the 14/12 now for a few years bought it shortly after they came out. I have never regretted buying this saw, and if I needed to replace it I would buy another one just like it. hope this helps and good luck on your purchase.
