It seems like every time I watch another episode of rough cut I learn some valuable information. Today was no exception.

Today he addressed the issue of compound joints (where the sides of a box splay out). He introduced the idea of a “magic block” which I had never heard of before. It enables you to get all your cuts right without any calculations and/or referenced to tables of numbers. Great idea!

I highly recommend this show. If you have not heard of it, it is on PBS. In my area it is on at 12:30 on Saturday but broadcast times will vary around the country.

In theory, it may be considered a replacement for the New Yankee Workshop, but it is quite different and, IMO, even better.

Thanks for the tip Rich. I’ll look for it.

Rich—You lucky dog … the rubes at Wisconsin Public TV can’t seem to find room on their schedule for T-Chisel’s new show. Heck, they aren’t even carrying the WoodSmith Shop.

Yep, you are lucky Rich. Our PBS has been in “pledge” mode for a couple of weeks, asking for $$$$. As usual, they don’t show anything I’d want to see. Was thinking about calling them to say that if they’d take that stuff off they’re showing, I’d make a pledge. But, I don’t think our station has started showing that yet and probably won’t.

Thanks for the heads up. I have not found it on our local PBS but it may be online. Online is the only place I get to see Woodright Shop. Thank god it’s there.

I’m still waiting/asking for WCMU to pick it up as well. Apparently they will once some of the other shows finish their current seasons? For now I just have to keep waiting. :-(

I wish it was available through youtube or download. My local PBS does not carry the show. I guess I got to look for those torrents.

Hmmm, I pretty much don’t watch TV, but I guess I’ll have to look into viewing this show.

PBs/KET here will finally air the first episode of Rough Cut tomorrow, 12/06. They seem to always run behind but at least it will be on starting tomorrow. I think most PBS stations can choose when to start a series and aren’t bound by the normal schedules we are used to on broadcast channels.

Apparently, Public Television in Southern California believes there are no woodworkers. EGAD there are a million people that like the most obscure items in the universe here in SoCal. But reruns of Mr Rogers, and Bob the Builder take priority. We don’t get any of the shows, except the Ask This Old House (booooo)

Yeah, this stinks it’s not airing here yet either! Driving me nuts, been watching his website and LJ pages.
I met T Mac at the show in Atlanta this summer and he had me so pumped. Guess I will keep watching our listings. Cant wait to see it!

I found out yesterday that Rough Cuts plays here in Brandon on cable at 17:30 on Saturdays….but I couldn’t watch it as I was tied up doing something else!!! I need to get a PVR or something so I can watch the few shows that are interesting at a time when I can watch them.

When will the reality TV fad end?

Mark – get a TiVo. A TiVo compared to a conventional VCR is like comparing a word processor on a computer to a typewriter.
