Topic tags/keywords: resource question tip

Hello -

I live in Minnesota but am visiting family in Albuquerque next week. Last visit I bought lumber from Albuquerque Hardwoods… now gone, right? So, I’m going to build a bed, and I’d like advice on where to buy the lumber (probably white pine, southern yellow pine, or light colored hardwood). I’ve searched here and see
1. Stock Millwork 5815 Edith
2. http://www.cswoods.com/

Opinions on these or other recommendations welcome!

I will do the joinery and final finishing with hand tools, but I might like help (I’m willing to pay) with getting the stock “in the ball park” – cutting, jointing and planing as my visit is relatively short.

Thanks!
Dale

Dale,
“Rugby” bought out Alb. Hardwoods. The selection is the same, maybe a bit better.
They are downtown near the museums, be ready for some sticker shock on some species!

Splinter -

Thanks for the updated information on Rugby. I do need to watch the cost, so price will heavily influence the selection.

Dale, there is also Alpine Builders Supply on Water St in Santa Fe, also, not cheap and they didn’t take credit cards last I knew. Stock is probably your best bet. FWIW

Re. the prices at Rugby. Last time I was there, Alder was the same price as Cherry 8^(

Walnut went from about $5/bf to over $10. Plain WO is a tad over $5, red oak is still in the $2-$3 range.

Art, Splinter…

Thanks for the information. I’m on the road right now on the way to ABQ. As for sticker shock, it seems that’s almost always the case when I buy lumber. :(

In any case, I’ll check out both Stock and Rugby. Thanks again…
