If anyone is searching for the right gift to make for someone, perhaps a hand made baseball bat is the answer.

At rockler you can buy a baseball bat “second”. In theory, these are bats what were not completed by a manufacturer because of some defect. I took a chance and bought one. Other than the fact that it still needed some turning, sanding and finishing work, I could see no defect in the bat.

I doubt that I could by a adequate blank of maple for much less than their asking price and they are doing free delivery currently.

This is nothing more than an idea I want to share with my LJ friends.

You’re probably right Rich. I don’t think you could buy a clear piece of maple in a blank for that price. Looks like a good deal to me…. and finished ones sell for about $35.

Spring training starts in 3 months ;)

Or you could get these Ash blanks (3”x3”x38”) from for $14.95, I have used approx. six of these so far and really liked the results.
