hay guys so i was looking at craiglist and there was an add for “selling wood working shop” so i was looking at everything and he had a jointer. i have been looking for a jointer for a wail now so i stoped by his house to take a look.

know i know this is not the best jointer and i figured i would ask your guys opinion on it and if anyone knows where i can find blades.

after some cleaning of the bed (i still need to clean it a little more) i had to test it out.

i payed 75 bucks for it

he also had something that i have never seen before granted i have only been looking at tools for about a year now and just resently started to buy some. It was an odd planer, asked him how much for that he told me $50 and it runs.. so i picked that up also.

Im not sure if this is something that i could do cleaning to and use it or just look at it (love the look of the old stuff) if i do use it would i be able to get blades for this, think he said it was a 6 inch.

he also had this but no price as of yet and told me if i wanted it to give him an offer, it runs also im not sure what this is worth or if i need a 24” deep scroll saw but it sure looks nice. would this be something worth pickling up if the price was right?

thanks guys
jeff

Is there a fence with the jointer? Just carefully measure the blades you have and buy some third party blades of that dimension. Infinity and Freud make good ones, as do a number of others.

I would measure the knives but I’ll bet any 1/8” thick knife should fit.

Or you can send those off for resharpening.

Nice alien head!

There are a few other LJ’s that also have alien head planers. Here’s a blog post from one that includes a video of him using it. If I found one in my area for $50, it’d be snapped up in a heartbeat.

There was another buyer for the alien head, I guess he left to get cash and his car broke down. So it was still there when I got there. Thanks for the link I’ll check it out when I get home

Good deal. As said, probably any 6 1/8” knives will work. It’s a good idea to have spares.

Alien heads are very desirable. Especially in decent shape.

The jointer beds look good to me. Cast iron is porous. Unless you have it ground, which probably isn’t necessary, it’ll never look new. Trying to make it look new by sanding will probably mess it up.

So don’t bother trying to get the rest off and just put some wax on it?

Solid score! I wussed out on an alien head a while back and still kick myself for it. Such a cool little machine.

Id wax those tables and let er rip fwiw.

I had an alien head that I bought used (pre-CL), and did a couple of small jobs with it. The problem with them is that they are not self-feeding. You have to push the lumber through, then switch over to pulling it through as you near the end. I didn’t feel regretful at all when I sold it.

Good deals! Off him the same $50 for the jig saw. I don’t know if it takes pinless blades but I think you can knock the pins out of it doesn’t.

From what I found on the internet about it there are a couple places that sell the blades for it there 6 inch long. I’m just not sure if I need it lol I’m going to assume that a bandsaw would do about the same job this would or am I rough thinking that? I just don’t want it to sit in the corner and not get used.. but I’m sure I would need it for something and kick my self in the ass for not getting it

Well, if you don’‘t do fret work or intricate jigsaw puzzles or the like there’s no point. But for $50 you could buy it and look at it for a while and sell it for $75 if you decide it was a boondoggle.
