I have a 1970’s era Montgomery Wards table saw that my Dad gave me when he cleaned out his garage. The motor has pretty much kicked the bucket, and I already have another tables saw that I am using. Since this saw has a cast iron top I was thinking about other uses for it. I am thinking about ripping out the motor assembly and mounting a router to use it as a router table. Has anyone else done this sort of conversion? I’m searching for ideas on how to do this properly. Are there any other better uses for this piece of equipment that I should consider?

Swied- I have not done a conversion like that but I have added a router station to the end of my table saw. It works very well. The fence is the key to it all. I don’t know what sort of table top you have. perhaps if you put a photo in that will help people give you some ideas. Good luck.

A cast iron top for a router table? If you could work it out, I think that it would be great.
Take some before and after pictures.

The tough part will be the router plate, and getting the router close enough to the top surface of the table, since table saw tops are somewhat 3 dimensional. If you have access to a milling machine (and someone who knows how to use it) that would be best.

How close should it be to the top surface? I don’t have access to any fancy milling equipment. Here are some pictures:
