Looking at adding a drill press to my shop collection. I stumbled upon this shop fox w1670. Can’t seem to find any reviews on it. By the pictures and specs it will do exactly what I’m looking for. Just not very knowledgable to the shop fox brand. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

New or used? Shop Fox is generally a good brand, but if used you need to make sure it is in good shape. How’s the asking price?

Cross reference with Grizzly and Harbor Freight machines. Most things sold under SF brand are one of those.

It’s brand new still in the packaging. He’s asking $300. It’s a deal for what they list for. It is kinda scary if you’re right Rickm. I’m looking for a press with an adjustable head. What would you guys suggest.

I haven’t seen any HF products that coincide with grizzly or shop fox. Basically grizzly and shop fox are the same. Shop fox is meant to be sold at retailers and grizzly is sold by grizzly.

I do have a few grizzly tools now. I guess I didn’t realize they were owned by same company. I’m going to go get it in the morning. I guess I’ll see how it holds up.

Shop Fox is now just a brand for Chinese catalog products. Once they had a table saw I think, might still. There are power and pneumatic tools sold under the brand but they same as HF.

Ive googled a lot of the tools shopfox offer. Some are very pricey. Just don’t seem to have many reviews. I’m not a name brand guy just don’t want to blow $300 on this press if it’s going to be junk or burn up after little use.

I have spent well close to 10 grand on my grizzly stuff and have been very pleased with it so far. I’m building a new shop in 2 weeks just trying to shop for new tools on my down time. It’s rain in the forecast the rest of the week lol

@ 300, grab it! You wont be sorry. As stated, it’s a grizzly in white paint.

I have the Shopfox with oscillating sand feature and it is a good heavy duty machine. Had it about 6 months and the only thing I don’t like is the depth stop adjustment screws. There’s a number of reviews I found online and a few videos. Easy to use and everything fit well. Easy setup. Seems very accurate with little runout. Reviews I read reaffirm this. $300 is a good price.

A few Google results:

The Lumberjocks review is not good. You might want to PM the author to see if he has changed his opinion.

Do you mean the head tilts?
I’m curious to know how you can ever get this type of DP squared again, reliably and repeatedly.

Good luck with the purchase, sounds like you have found a deal!

Shop Fox is made by Grizzly a company I’ve always had good success with their products and customer service.

FWIW, I’ve got a shop fox band saw that works great, and a Shopfox parallelogram jointer that is awesome. I also had a Shopfox bench top jointer that worked great, I just outgrew it.

I would not say that $50 off for being used without warranty of a $350 (price in walmart and few others) item is a “deal” It is rather a rip off.
