A local woodcrafting shop went out of business a while ago and all the equipment and stock of lumber is being liquidated. I literally have my pickup (Colorado Crew Cab) filled to capacity with lumber I bought for a total cost of $47.50. WOW! They had lots of bins of cut-offs and odd pieces of lumber that were sold by the bin. You could see some of what was in the bin but much of it was like a grab-bag. I don’t have a lot of big pieces but I have lots and lots of cut-offs that are big enough to do something with. Each of the 5 bins I bought had at least one piece that was, by itself, worth what I paid for the whole bin. Virtually everything is walnut, cherry or oak. I don’t think I could have bought this much firewood for $47.50. -- Rich, Cedar Rapids, IA - I'm a woodworker. I don't create beauty, I reveal it. |

Nice wood score! I’ll cut you some slack on the photos. They only prove you can copy and paste from the internet anyway…unless of course you are in the photo and a copy of today’s news paper. Call it the proof of gloat shot ;) -- Galootish log blog, http://www.timberframe-tools.com |

Personally, I don’t want to see the pictures because then I will just be jealous. On another group that I participate in, we use the word CONGRUDGULATIONS at times like this. We are happy for you and we want to congratulate you, but at the same time, we wish it wer us and not you that was being congratulated. So….. CONGRUDGULATIONAS! Doc -- Hey, woodworking ain't brain surgery. Just do something and keep trying till you get it. Doc |

Okay Rich – I’ll help you out a bit. I checked out the auction's web site . They certainly did have a good selection of lumber. So I can verify the lumber was up for auction – you’ll have to take care of the proof of possession ;) Sounds like you did well – Congratulations! PS: the picture posting is pretty easy. Just hit the “img” button along the top of the editing window. It will walk you through it. You just need the image on your computer… -- Steve - Impatience is Expensive |

Grizz and Rich and Doc Then maybe I can start dreaming about a wood auction that I score on, and doc gives me CONGRUDGULATIONS, and Rich is envious of me and….......well….......you gotta have a dream. -- Jim, Anchorage Alaska |

Okay guys (and gals), here is a picture of the back of my truck. You will see a lot of shorter pieces but there are many longer pieces that run towards the front of the truck. Included is a box of cherry spindles that I have no idea what to do with but there are over 150 and it cost me $5.00. This is almost exclusively walnut, cherry and oak and I tried to emphasize cherry. Did I tell you I paid a total of $47.50 for this (plus state sales tax of 7%)? Based on the way the truck rode, I estimate I have about 1000 pounds. At 5 pounds per bf, that implies 200 bf (i.e. less than 25¢ per bf). Sorry ‘bout rubbing it in. -- Rich, Cedar Rapids, IA - I'm a woodworker. I don't create beauty, I reveal it. |
