Pretty sure it is Elm, but not 100% on that. It’s in North Eastern NY unfortunately I didn’t get there to see any leaves, but it does have the erratic bark pattern and feels a bit spongy to the touch.

Looks like Elm to me, the same bark as the stupid Elm tree in my yard. : (
