Topic tags/keywords: question lathe

I found a guy with one of these for sale but I can’t find any info on this thing anywhere. It’s 3/4 hp 5 speed with a full 36 in from center to center. I’ve never used a lathe and don’t know much about them. I went to the guys house to check it out. It seemed to run fine with no vibration. Had a bit of rust and a broken bolt that adjusted the tool rest, but nothing major. I’m sure its a decent deal. The lathe, 2 tool rests, and a set of craftsman cutting tools all for 100 bucks. I found 1 forum that had about 3 people asking about this lathe with no answers. One person said he had a craftsman and it was the same as the Sterling model. Does this sound like a good deal to you guys? Do any of you have any information about this lathe? Thanks

If there are no proprietary cast iron parts that are broken, it would seem to me a great deal. Bearings can be replaced and tailstocks which have a morse taper live center can receive a new center. I think it’s worth another visit with some cash in your pocket and a notion of exactly how much you want to part with to haul it home.
