I thought I would pass on this tip. Not sure if it was posted before.

While working on the dovetails for Project X (2×4) I was using a Stanley pull saw and a regular coping saw. I found it a tad awkward switching from pulling to pushing to cut wood . . . so I flipped the blade in the coping saw angling the teeth backwards. Now it cuts on the pull stroke.

I thought that was the way you were supposed to use a coping saw?

I’ve been doing it wrong all these years? :-)

Um . . . well . . . ah . . . thats a good one Gary. :-)

I actually inherited the coping saw and it was in the “push position”.

Oh well . . . how about I change the subject line to “Western Style” coping saw???? :-D

LOL

this post is bringing back some fond memories ! ive been involved in many debates over this subject over the years ! i use a coping saw about every single day , its right up there on my most used tools list . for the record i use mine on the pull stroke . but i know about as many guys that dont do it that way as i know that do . i once turned mine around to see if they knew something i didnt , i used it a week i could make aceptable cuts but not as nice as i did on the pull stroke ,and not nearly as fast .
so ill just say glad you came over to the pull strokers side ! lol

I think I’ve always been a pull-stroke kind of guy.
