Wasn’t really sure where to put this, so I threw it in the coffee lounge. Budget wise, upgrading my DC is a long ways off, so I currently work with my HF DC with a trash can separator, vented outdoors. I also use a Grizzly air “scrubber” and a respirator for my dustier work.

I know a lot of people have upgraded to the Rikon impeller for some improved performance (not looking to get into a debate over whether it deteriorates motor life or not), but I was curious if anyone had the performance curves after the upgrade? I’ve done a google search and turned up nothing, aside from users stating that it improved performance, but didn’t provide any testing/numbers.

First, no I have not done this and do not have any data for you; however, I do have a question on your setup. It sounds like we have similar setups, HF dust collector, Thein tophat separator on a trash can, etc. The thing I am curious about is what kind of difference you noticed when you vented outside? Was there any increase in suction of the system with no vent bag or filter to slow down exhaust? Did you notice a reduction in fine dust within your shop? Thanks

Unfortunately, I don’t have any before/after comparisons to share. I set up my venting and separator when I got my DC, and never ran it outside of that configuration. I will say that I had read a lot of concerns about noise transfer outdoors, but it’s no louder than when my AC unit is running.
