I have decided to build a few captains beds.. One will be a king size and the other a single/twin.

I can build a book case for the headboard, the foot boards are likely to be storage chests to sit on.. like blanket chests. and I can build the frames for the drawers….

What I’m trying to think through is connecting the bed rails to the headboards and footboards…. I cannot imagine how the base goes together w/ the drawers and bedrail combination…..

Anyone build anything like this? Do you have pics?

Thanks
Joe

Check this out and see if it helps. Haven’t built one myself, but this looks like you might get some ideas.

I’ve been thinking about the same thing. The only way I’ve come up with is to make the base longer that needed for the mattress. Then make the headboard wide enough to fit outside of the base. It would then be a simple matter of connecting them.

Firecaster and Gregn…

Thanks for your input.. I’m still trying to figure this one out and I’m getting closer w/ the details. Once I get one built, I’ll post pics here too
