I’m looking to mill up some 1-1/8” stock for the rails of a bed. Crosscut Hardwood has 4/4 and 8/4 Eastern White Pine available, I was hoping for something closer to 1-1/8” so there isn’t so much waste and to avoid so much wear on my portable planer (not to mention paying more money for the privilege of making all those planer shavings).

Can anyone recommend another supplier in the Portland, OR area that might have something appropriate?

You might try Woodcrafters, (not Woodcraft). They are at 212 NE 6th Ave. Three blocks north of Burnside and two blocks east of NE Grand. Pretty good selection of wood, can do custom milling, good selection of tools….Plus a locally owned company.

Since it is pine you are looking for have you considered looking at Special Select or select dimensional lumber 2x material will get you much closer to 1-1/8” than the 8/4 will granted you may have to dry it more to get it to the proper moisture content but that as well should help get you closer to your goal

@Pegleg: I’ve been meaning to get around to checking Woodcrafters out, time for a PDX trip.
@Brandon: That’s not a bad idea either… I was hoping to get started sooner rather than later, so waiting for it to dry out (starting in November!) probably won’t work out.
