Topic tags/keywords: pinholes bugs blo

Hi all, I’m getting near the end of my bench build. Occasionally when I go to a board I’ll see a very very small insect or two crawling on it. Kind of like a tiny ant. I typically just squash it and move on, don’t want to look too closely for fear I’ll find a bunch of ‘em!

So anyway, when I finish my bench with boiled linseed oil, will that kill off any resident bugs and deter others from making a home there? I do see pinholes in some of my boards but can’t remember if they were there when I got them (free wood) or if they are the result of these tiny bugs I see.

Your thoughts? Advice?

Do you find sawdust on the lumber also? If so you have a major infestation of some type and BLO and bug sprays are not going to do it. You will either need to heat the lumber in a kiln or some other manner or apply something like the borate insecticides used for powder post beetles (PPB) and so on. If you have PBBs in the house, you have a likely problem that will require a lot of money and/or time.

Thanks guys, bug spray it is! And tnwood, no I don’t see any sawdust in the area of the wood. Maybe these little guys live in the wood, or maybe they just live on or near it, I dunno. But I’ll just shoot it with some bug spray and see if I see them any more!
