I wish the management of this site could fix the problem of pics being at 90 deg. angles.

I found that the only pics that flip on me are the ones I have not downsized yet. Original 2 MB from my camera will flip every time at that size.

I do not have any problems with pictures. A lot of the problems are with posting directly from portable devices.

I wish people would fix their own pictures so they are not rotated.

I guess it should be the responsibility of the users to make sure the site works properly instead of the owners who make money off of user generated content. They only provide the infrastructure. They should make sure it works.

I always post from a PC. Pics that originated on my smart phone (an iPhone) will be rotated, if they were taken in landscape mode (I think?). They look fine on the PC but will be rotate on LJs.

If I simply open them in any sort of photo editor and then save them, same resolution and format, then they look fine on LJ.

I think the real problem is if you are posting from a smart phone. You have no way to “touch” them like a PC does to “fix” them. So some users have no option to “fix” their photos before posting. Though there’s probably an app for that.

It does seem to me this is fundamentally an issue with the way LJ handles pics. And I agree it has been going on a long time and I would like to see it addressed.

It’s not their fault.

If the poster posts pics from their “smart phone” and does not edit them first, there is a good chance they will post sideways.

Edit the pics…crop ever so slightly, then save each one, and post that pic. The information of the image is stored in the meta data and should post in the correct orientation.

Hope this helps.

I put all my pictures on my desk top, open them with Paint and resize them to 15-20% of original. They will post right here and load quick.

I take mine with an Android phone and edit them on my PC before posting. Yes, it is an extra step but important for me to properly show my work.

I was thinking the same thing. If i wanted my photos resized to a non native size I would take photos that size. I like huge pictures with a ton of a data in them.

This website has no way of detecting and correcting the phone camera problem. I seldom use my phone as a camera anyway since the quality of the pictures is so inferior to those of even a very modest camera.

90% of it is holding your camera or phone the right way.

So putting my camera on landscape mode will orient my pictures correctly?

I don’t post with a phone but will say by turning my tablet 90 degrees when taking pictures they post correctly.

Personally, I think if you’re knowledgeable enough to know how to flip the pics prior to posting, great. If not, maybe seek help from your lumberjock friends if you look at your post and can see they are obviously not oriented correctly. That’s what this site is about, helping and inspiring others with what you know. Flip phone, smart phone, digital SLR, tablet, shouldn’t matter, as long as what you hope to share can be seen and appreciated. Plenty of help here on how to fix your pictures.

I for one, am quite satisfied with the FREE forum I have for sharing my passion and craft. I spend nothing to come here and share, and I expect nothing more than what I’m given.

Just my thoughts.
