You could make a front handle on a lathe

I made a review for handle and knob replacement. Really happy with the choice I made.

Unless you are wanting to keep it “Original” id say your two cheapest options are:
1 – Make your own, which is very time consuming
2 – go buy a cheap plane from HF for around $8 and steal the parts from there

Seems like Ebay wants as much for the handles as a plane is worth

I think I will take th HF option the turning option is not a problem but I have two other projects going and don’t want to spend the time prepping a blank and turning a knob that will fit

Walt, I mess around with around with Sargent hand planes. That said, I can replicate most Sargents, IF the tote & knob threading has not been bastardized into something like a 1/4-20 (more frequent than one would think). I can probably replicate the steel shafts (13/32”) AND BRASS IF you now exactly what you need. IF the threading has been changed, then I need to know that in order to make adjustments.

Bottom line, if you can and know what you need, then do the eBay thing to acquire what you need. I am not into profiteering, but do understand that one-off parts get expensive quickly. send me an email at mike at horizontalheavens dot com and lets talk.

Cool! Rather a DIY, if you can, anyway… 8-)
