Well a welcome to California. There are plenty of pluses about the area, close to the Sierra mtns, and Yosemite N.P. but when it comes to hardwood suppliers not much. There’s Aura Hardwoods in Modesto that has a small selection of hardwoods, a place called The Woodsman in Stockton has some neat hardwoods, is a small place owned and operated by an individual. Other than that you’re pretty much in for a long drive to either Sacramento or the Bay area. I live about 35 minutes from Sonora. -- Randy, Oakdale, Ca. |

There is a small sawmill in Twain Harte, just up the mountain from Sonora. He is, or was, a member of this site. -- Robert, so much inspiration here, and so little time! |

Randy mentioned Aura Hardwood in Modesto. Aura has 3-4 stores that I know of. I buy most of my lumber and sheet goods fron their San Jose store, and they can bring things from one of their other stores if necessary. -- Adversity doesn't build character...................it reveals it. |

Hello Paul, An early welcome to California. I might be able to help you on a variety of hardwoods. I live in the Sacramento area and have many thousands of board feet of hardwoods. I am not a lumber dealer. However, I have accumulated a lot of wood through the years and recently bought all of the wood from a furniture company that closed its doors. Send me an email and we can talk about your wood needs. I can send photos. Also, my prices are way below the regular lumber yards. This offer also extends to fellow Lumberjocks if anyone is interested. John -- Oldworld, Fair Oaks, Ca |
