Putting together my workbench top - is there a faster way by hand to get some of the twist/cups out so these gaps close up? The one well-functioning plane I have is a Jack plane. I guess this is why they call it woodworking, huh?
If you want to do it by hand, have you seen Paul Sellers' workbench series on Youtube? It will take a while and will be a lot of work, but you'll get some exercise. He recommends a #4, but a#5 would work fine. You'll certainly learn to sharpen going through the knots.
I've watched Paul sellers numerous times, I intend to add more clamps in final glue up, actually added a couple more to see how they fit which showed less spots to clean up than that photo. I've spent the last month or so whenever I've had time to get the surfaces cleaned up. Finally broke down and borrowed my FILs dewalt electric hand planer to speed the process up.
I was after the beetle kill pine look which kept me to the 6×2s, then watched the sellers video again and clarity misheard him say NOT to use 6×2s due to the knots and whatnot. Oh well, live and learn. Certainly will be worth the effort once I finally finish this!
