I am in the market for an open end sander. With budget a factor, I am looking for opinions on both the Super Max 19-38 and the Grizzly G458. Any advice, opinions, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I’m in the same boat. I have a few Grizzly tools and I’m very happy with them….. but some of the reviews I’ve read about their G0458 make me a little nervous about purchasing one. I’m looking into their G1079R, Jets 10-20 or even a Sandflee for the type of thing I do. I’m still doing a little research.

I have a Delta 31-250 that is in excellent shape, perfectly dialed in with several new parts including a new conveyer. I am upgrading to a 50” Woodmaster this fall, so if either of you guys could wait until the end of August, I would make you a deal on a really well cared for Delta unit for much less than a Grizzly.

About 2 years ago I sold my Delta since it hadn’t seen use the previous 2 years. Now I find I still have use for one, and the Supermax 19-38 is the one I’ll be getting.

What’s your location? Just wondering about shipping.

I have the 458 that I got on CL for $300. Had to replace a few parts, so in the end it cost about $360. It works well, but it’s difficult to send something long thru it. The conveyor belt doesn’t like to stay on track.

I have the g458 and its fine. I would rather have the closed end double barrel type myself but mine was bought used from a forum member at a good price so overall I’m pleased with it.

Bill, the damn thing takes forever to track but let me give you some advice that hopefully will help. Make sure the adjusted feed side is parallel with the outfeed last roller. So measure them exactly. Now that’s not going to set it of course but that makes sure the roller isn’t over adjusted on one side or the other before you even start trying to track it. Then do small turns and be patient. It can happen. Hope that made sense.
