I’m looking for a mortiser. I’ve used hollow chisels, chain mortisers, oscillating chisels and a home made rig made from a rehabed chain mortiser and 3hp router. I like the Multi-Router, but I’ve never actually seen one except in pictures. Looks like set up could get compicated. Plus looks like a lot of plastic parts.

What I would really love is to be able to take a small metal milling machine with a cross travel table. This would be very similar to the mortiser/router combo mentioed above. I’m sure everything would work but I am unsure about spindle speeds. Metal working machines turn much slower than routers. Speed is not a vital issue.

Anybody here seen or done this with a small, bench top mill? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a small mill, and it would work fine for mortising. Speed is no problem.

Good for other things where precision is needed.
