I have a friend who has a saw mill, and I think I can get some really nice rough cut wood from him for dirt cheap. I want to get a jointer and a thickness planer. I already have a decent older Craftsman contractor saw that works well for me.

What do you think of this Delta for $40?

I got my table saw with a super thick layer of rust on it and cleaned it all up with elbow grease and mineral spirits so the rust doesn’t scare me. I was hoping with a high quality set of blades and some elbow grease, this jointer would be a pretty good deal. Not sure of the model. I was also considering the Cutech benchtop jointer as a new purchase or a $200 Ridgid on Craigslist:

while I don’t think much of 6” jointers in general (had one hated it), hell for that much you could scrap it and make most back. I’d go get it quickly.

Though only a 6”, it will be way better than any benchtop jointer.

That jointer was posted 6 days ago… so it’s most likely already gone and the seller just hasn’t yanked the ad yet. Either that, or there is something seriously wrong with it that isn’t being disclosed :)

If neither of the above, it should already be sitting in your garage. Run, don’t walk, and grab it fast.

read other forum posts & reviews about bench top jointers. I would say, the lesson is to stay away from them.

OK, I’ll try to get this one and if not, look for another stand-alone model. Thanks for the input!

Looks like you’re local to me- I emailed that guy with the delta jointer about 30 minutes after it was posted but I have yet to receive a response. As you know used jointers don’t seem to go cheap around here so my guess is that one was too good to be true.

I just picked up a ridgid jointer and while I know this isn’t a buy/sell forum, I do have my old 6” craftsmen jointer for sale- I need the space in my shed and would take $75. Email me if you’re interested.

That would be a great deal if it’s still available. If not, there were a couple of other Delta’s on your CL that are a step down, but still functional machines at a reasonable price IMO.
