Topic tags/keywords: grateful for my spouse

Many of us LJ’s acknowledge how fortunate we are to have the spouses we do…that was confirmed to me again today that I am blessed with a woman that loves me, and wants me to keep hanging around doing whatever it is I do. Jen and I went on our first date 10 years ago today…I asked her to marry me at the end of that date… it took a week for here to come around to saying yes and we’ve never looked back.

I know I am a happier, more fulfilled, more valuable human being for her having said yes…my life gained a purpose it lacked prior to Jen being in my life. We’ve weathered illnesses, accidents, deaths and strife and have grown stronger together and individually. We’ve been blessed with some incredible opportunities and two of the greatest kids on the planet. Right now we are facing some less than ideal times but we know that we are there for each other and that is sufficient (along with God’s grace) to keep us going. It’s Jen’s birthday today and the kids and I gave her gifts that the kids picked out (it was a real joy to see them able to put themselves in Mom’s shoes to buy her things she would like, made me proud of them) watch them wrap them up. I’m not big on getting presents for me so I was surprised when Jen gave me a small but hefty gift bag. “What’s this?” I said. “It’s for our tenth, for you” she said amongst other stuff that will get me blubbering if I type it here so just suffice it to say she was reminding me that she loves me and wants me to keep hanging around. In the bag is a LV small shoulder plane that I have been saving my pennies for, I’ll put it through its paces and post a review here when I get a chance.

I guess the long and the short of this is all you LJs that know the value of a good spouse, give ‘em all an extra hug today ‘cause they are irreplaceable! Happy Birthday Jen!!!!

Congrats on ten happy years. Only another twenty five to catch up to LouAnn and me.

They say the first fifty are the hardest. After that, you’re too old to care any more! (grin)

The good thing about our relationship is the fact that we have yet to have our first fight.

The sad part is that this fact is so rare…

Congratulations on your tenth. We celebrated our tenth this year as well. I know how you feel about being married to your wife. I feel blessed in the same way about mine.

God Bless
tom

Great story.

Any woman who gives you a plane for a gift is a keeper. :-)

mark, your account—all of it—brings tears to my eyes, tears of joy for you, because of the way in which you can express how simple things a family does adds up to something not so simple—a strong, happy family, each having regard for the other family members.

our 52d was in june, and i think that this same spirit, feeling, attitude prevails—it is hard to know exactly what it is, but it is special.

Thank you all for the responses, it looks like Jen and I have a few years of catching up to do :-) If these last 10 years are an indication we’ll be hitting 50 the day after tomorrow! Time sure flies when you are having fun.

Congratulations Mark and Jen!

We passed 34 this summer, seems like it was just a few years now. It has been so enjoyable as well!

All the Best!
