Only posting to mourn another CL steal that swept by me. Local poster selling a PM54a for $275. I contacted within one hour of the post, and it was already gone…

Well, back to my cumbersome planer sled and router table I go…

Slowpoke!

Right? It’s still stinging, especially since I can’t seem to come across decent woodworking tools on craigslist around here often. And when they do come up, they’re gone within a couple of hours.

Around me, the good stuff never lasts an hour. The really frustrating thing is when you see the same thing being put for sale again a couple weeks later only at three times the price. I’ve lost a couple really good deals that were posted less than 15 minutes before they were gone.

Tell me about it

A few months ago, there was a guy was selling a 60’s Unisaw in beautiful condition for 250. Called maybe 20 minutes after it was posted and he told me it was already sold. Oh well. Win some / lose some.

The next time I log into CL, maybe a week later, there it was again. But now listed at 750 and sitting in a different garage. I call the guy and see if he’ll budge a little and maybe split the difference – nope, he wanted every penny of that 750. What a jerk. He’s not even a woodworker, just knew that 250 for that saw was a steal.

Yeah, I know there’s nothing stopping them from donig it, but I really hate it when people try to be enterprising with their CL finds. OTOH, a local guy is selling his 8” Powermatic HH Jointer, but is asking about 80% of the new value. Probably not a bad deal with the shape it’s in, but I think he’s over-estimating the market here. If I were in the market for a big, expensive jointer (and I am inching in that direction), I’d probably go with one of the 8” HH Grizzly’s that are so well-received. (Maybe if I make the wife lug around my planer sled for a while, that’ll help convice her).
