Topic tags/keywords: planer dust collection

I have s Delta 12 1/2 planer (22-560) that works nicely, but has no real allowance for dust collection. Never used to be a problem, but I have recently started a new basement-bound workshop and dust collection is a bigger priority for all my tools now.

There are some aftermarket hoods that replace the cutter guard, but I’m not sure how well they work, or if maybe people might have come up with their own clever solutions.

thanks BoiseJoe… the delta hood looks reasonably priced, just wanted to make sure it did the job.

a little late on this but I just purchased the hood from a local tool company for my Delta 22-560. The mfg part number matched what I purchased but it will not quite fit. I can see if I file off a little of the shield it will work. I hope so the planer is a bit contributor to my dust problem.

I have the same hood and it’s prone to plugging from time to time. Especially when taking a heavy cut in “stringy” woods. It throws chips all over the place when it plugs. I have a then strip of, oak I believe, that I use to unplug it. Unplug the planer, remove the hose and use the strip to knock the plug out.
