Hi all!

Can anyone offer an opinion on this jointer I am considering. The guys is asking 875.00 O.B.O

The jointer is a older GRIZZLY G1018 8 INCH JOINTER with BYRD SHELIX cutterhead. – 1.5hp 230v 1ph with 65 inch tables. The cutterhead is new and in the box.

I am not certain on the manufacturing age but the G1018 have been around a while!

The photo shows rust and a cabinet that need cleaning and probably paint.

I figure without the Shelix the jointer is worth $350-400 but the Shelix is 475.00 alone, so the price is likely fair at 875.00

I figure i will have another 45.00 for bearings and saying the bed and fence are square and the bed adjusts well, I think I could offer 700.00 and get it.

Thoughts anyone?!!

Have you heard it running? Can you run some wood over it?

I had this exact jointer, with the Byrd head. I’d buy it again. Jointers are pretty simple machines, check to ensure that the beds are coplanar, run some lumber over it, make sure all the dohickeys and donthickeys operate. Sounds like a decent deal to me. Offer $650 if you’re willing to pay $700.

That’s an older Geetech model probably made around 2000 or so….well proven jointer made under several brand names, but $875 seems high to me, even with the Byrd head. The $650-$700 estimates seem about right.
