I have 10 black walnut logs longest of which is 15 inches shortest is 10 all are 8 inch diameter. I wanted to make a nice cutting board but I’m unsure which way to cut them. With the grain or across grain. Any ideas are welcome. -- Sunrunner34 |

Sounds like your salvaging some fire wood. I recommend with the grain. What is the diameter? Here is a link to some cutting methods. -- Ron, Twain Harte, Ca. Thanks for the thread and the link. I have some walnut logs that I’m going to use for a tabletop. I have the name of a sawyer close to my home and I’ll talk to him about what is said here. -- Regret- the feeling you get just after you do something really stupid. |

Lets revive an old thread. (slightly new topic ) I have a black walnut log (I have a yard full of them really, but one is a LOG) Its 60 inched at the big end, 10 + feet long and 38inches on the small end. Vaneer quality. Im going to cut the flare off the big end to bulid a table. That leaves about 48 inches on the big end and still over 10 feet long. Is there a market for this? I have plenty of walnut to finish my project so I dont need it. How much is this worth? Where can I sell it? I can post pictures tomorrow. -- I've cut it twice, but its still to short.... |
