I’m building a box with 1/4” thick sides. I typically will use splines or dowels to reinforce the corners. Keeping in mind the thinness of the sides are there any other options?

External legs! Or duct tape inside.

You could use glue..lol
or
maybe something like this:

Little glue blocks on the inside cut on a 45.

I like the little glue blocks idea but they would interfere with the way I do my lining. Good idea though…

Perhaps you could try the Mitered Rabbet joint? Here is an article explaining how its cut on the table saw.

Why do you need to reinforce beyond just glue? Are you planing on using it as a step-stool?

bc4393, even though the OP says reinforce I am primarily doing it for looks. In the past when I used one of my boxes as a step stool it held up for awhile but eventually gave out. I blame the failure on lack of reinforcment in the mitered corners, or the thinness of the sides, or…
