Topic tags/keywords: grizzly jointers jointer

So I was planning on getting a G0490x but it is out of stock. Does anyone know if they are just out of stock or if they are refreshing the line?

The only question I have regarding the machine itself is why can the 0490xw can joint a 2 inch shorter board (8 vs 10 for the 490x). Is that just due to the parallelogram design requiring larger boards to joint correctly?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a 10% coupon? I can’t seem to find one online or do they only do that during some type of holiday?

I recently (~6 months ago) bought a G0490XW. At the time they had just discontinued the G0490 and released the G0490XW. I can’t say for sure, but I doubt it would be a refresh this quickly.

Not quite following your second question; both are 8” jointers.

Can’t help with the coupon, I’ve never gotten one from them.

Thanks for the feedback. What I meant by the second question was if you look at the specs of both jointers the only difference is the “shortest jointable board” (length wise) the 490x is 10” and the 490xw is 8”. Just wasn’t sure why

I’ve got nothing for that. The only difference between the G0490x and the G0490XW is the cutter head. I actually bought a G0490X and changed the head to make it a G0490XW (long story I blogged if interested.) Sounds like a typo.

Yeah, I’m completely confused. The grizzly website shows the 490x is the parallelogram with spiral cutter head. The 490xw is just the parallelogram bed.

I would never joint a 10” or 8”piece no matter what the spec sheet says. Otherwise, the difference must be in what the gap is between the infeed and outfeed.

So I think the specs are wrong in the website. What is the differences between the 490xw and the 490x?

Difference is number of cuts per minute rpm of cutter head and parrallelagram bed.

If you compare the G0490X and the G0490XW here (http://www.grizzly.com/compare?category=Jointers&preload=G0490X|G0490XW||G0490), they both have parallelogram beds, are essentially identical. The ONLY difference I can see is that the spiral head on the G0490XW is slightly smaller (3in.) vs the G0490X (3 3/8 in.). This obviously makes the G0490XW cut slightly faster. Other than that I see no difference in the two. Is that even of concern those 2200 Cuts per minute?

The 490x has a little larger base also. The coupon didn’t come out in the catalog this year, been trying to get one myself. According to the lady at grizzly the the GO490XW will be available in may and the XW in April I believe is what she said.

The site specs of the 490x and 490xw are the same except the cutting head is smaller on the 490xw. Everything else is the same according to the specs sheet.

Sorry you are right, I was looking at the G0490 and the G0490X. Interesting that they put a different motor in the G0490XW.
