Am looking to make a table similar to this one http://sethrolland.com/gallery/tables/sunburst.html

Wondering two things: a) how is the top attached to the legs, or rather what would be a good way to do so?

b) in a sunburst pattern like that, do the ends of the boards split out over time? Is there a different glue used in this case?

I am thinking of laminating some thin pieces for a different leg pattern, but basically the same idea. Any thoughts?

As far as attaching the legs, I would glue and screw a smaller solid wood semi circle , under the table, and notch it for the legs. This gives you a great gluing surface, and you could drive screws or dowels sideways through the legs.
