I have an old delta contractors table saw. It has from what I can tell a direct drive motor part no 1313314 and I was making some cuts and it started slowing down so I shut it down to investigate. Turns out something went bad causing the motor to run but the blade doesn't. The blade spins nice and free while off so I don't think it's the bearings seized. Maybe some sort of gear stripped?
Sounds like you have a broken drive belt (about $8). Fairly easy fix, but you will probably have to yank the motor. (P/N 34-674 - number 226 on the parts diagram)
You can get one directly from Delta if you want to pay a bit more
If that's a Delta 34-670, those are belt drive and the synchronous belt is contained in the back of the motor housing opposite the blade arbor. If it's broken that is what would happen, another less likely possibility is the end of the armature snapping off, the drive sprocket is the armature shaft, the teeth are cut into the shaft instead of a separate sprocket being installed onto the shaft. Ereplacementparts.com has the belt for $39.47 which is steep but far less expensive than having to replace the entire armature. Let us know what you find.
Yes model number 34-670. So I should pull the motor off and see if the internal belt is broke? Is it pretty obvious to find or do I have to dig into it?
It sounds just like normal just doesn't spin so the belt would make sense.
While you got it open why not? Bet you're feeling a tad better now!
