Topic tags/keywords: humor wife shop

As my shop is built in the loft of our barn, I live with some of the inconsistancies of working in a 70 year old building.

The other night my wife comes up and brings me coffee, looks around and says

“The floor is so uneven in here and its really getting crowded. Why don’t you build a new shop?”
“You could take down the round pen we used to use for training colts, and just add on to the barn, that way it’s an addition and not a seperate building”.

I’m sure I drooled coffee on my tools and lumber as my mouth was open more than usual.

I told her I guess it would cost about $40K to build on and tie into the existing building, and she just looked at me as if to say “And?”

I said I didn’t need to have a new shop, but it is all I can think of this week.

She is incredibly supportive, or she just wants me out of the house more, maybe.

I have a few more years to “point” on construction sites, then will probably slow down. A new shop would be nice… :)

P.S. I AM keeping her.

You make it sound like it’s her money I will be spending…that would be real nice!

Damn, dude, I was hoping for a reprieve, but you’re gonna keep her! You keeping her leaves me in the cold! I have 87 square feet to work in. Well, at least the floor’s flat…sorta.

(psst, hey buddy, she’s got something on her mind that’s gonna cost you worse. Mark my words.)

Rats, Charlie, I thought nobody would pick up on that…

I will be making the payments if I put it on our line of credit…

Thanks Rustic, I am, and I am thankful!

Sorry Atom, she’s a Keeper, and if I could, I would send you another 87 square feet… :)
You haven’t felt cold until you winter in Alberta.

Your comment reminds me of a line my cousin uses, ” We keep the milk in the bedroom. It’s the coldest room in the house”.

You are really lucky Randy.
To have a mate that thinks that much of you to notice you need a better shop.
It’s a really nice feeling to be able to get some of your goals accomplished and have the support of you family.
That’s got to make this one of the longest winters you’ll spend on the prairie. <g> too late to run a slab now.

Mine tells me all the time she would love to see me get a bigger shop, but she also lets me work in the living room. I can’t complain.

If you’re not ready to add onto your place yet, I’d be happy for you to come out here and add onto my garage! Not that I should complain, my wife has let me use the entire one car garage for my shop; with the exception of her insisting on storing her bike in the garage.

awwww how wonderful….
tough decision, huh… and what would you use the current shop space for? maybe a win/win situation would move you into the “go for it” stage.

(there’s a DRY COLD? I thought it was only dry heat that we were missing out on)

If it was a cash deal- no debt I would do it. Otherwise nada.
