Hi – I just called Sherwin Williams in Lowell, MA (they are the closest product finishes branch to me) and they said I needed a certified spray booth to purchase the SW Kem Aqua Pigmented Lacquer. Does anyone know if this is a rule that is universal across the US or specific to MA?

I am building 2 cabinets (plywood box with maple face and doors) for my living room that I want to match to the color of my kitchen cabinets (cream white) which were built and finished by a large cabinet maker. If anyone can suggest an alternative product that would be suitable to cabinets and can be color matched by a paint store it would be greatly appreciated. I live in New Hampshire if anyone can suggest a good wood finish store in the state.

Thank you!

It’s been a few years since I bought SW lacquer, but I have no certification of any kind for any finish, and they sold it to me (Ohio). My guess is it’s a MA requirement (but that is a guess). Did you mention you live in NH? That might make a difference. One other point, at least with my SW stores. If you get past wall paint, they know pretty much zero about finishes. So there may be a requirement here that was ignored, or if your store’s employees are in the dark as much as mine they may be completely wrong.
