I happened to take a detour between jobs today and came across this peculiar old beam piece. It appears to have some sort of charring as if it’d been through a house fire. (this was in the patchwork neighborhoods of Garden District New Orleans on the fringe of Central City where anything goes). Anyways, besides pulling out the 100+ nails, how do I go about turning someones trash in to my treasure? What would you do besides find a bonfire?

(Gravity defying I know, the upload is changing the orientation)

That is likely “barge boards”. Pople in the Ohio valley would build barges to float crops and other goods down the Ohio and Ms. rivers to NO, sell the goods and then sell the lumber from the barges and the make the return trip on foot up the Natchez Trace. See this for sale quite a bit on CL.

Rotate your telephone 90 degrees when taking photos and they won’t be out of whack
