How about requiring a location heading when posting an item for sale or swap ? Needless time would be saved trying to find out where the seller is located.
The location should be at the headline, so if its a insignificant item, and it’s 1000 miles away, there would be no need to open the post.

Example:
Seller: 1 sheet of 3/4 birch plywood for sale.$10.00 Must pick up, can’t ship.
Interested buyer: Where are you located ?
Seller: whoops forgot to give my location. Nome Alaska
Interested buyer: I’m in Miami, FL

A lot of time was wasted.

Good idea … especially since so many LJ’s don’t list their location on their profile.
