Topic tags/keywords: question jointer

I have been looking for a long time to buy a decent jointer at a bargain price and unsurprisingly, haven’t had much luck so far. HD has this jointer on sale – only for today – for $300 + tax. Good news is if will be free shipping.

What say you? Buy this new jointer at this price or continue to look for a good used jointer? I have read all the reviews on Ridgid and think it is a good jointer. But I can also wait to get an older but better jointer (in terms of build quality, width etc) I guess I am in need of a gentle push here

Thanks for chiming in with your opinions.

If it’s the JP0610 (and it should be), you can search this site for opinions.

Lots of us have them (including me), and I’ve NEVER heard a bad thing said about them.

OTOH, if you’re really dreaming of an 8”-er, well … this isn’t it ;-)

If you are drooling over an 8” jointer, pass on this, you will kick yourself. IF however, a 6” jointer is what you want, this is a GREAT jointer at a really good price…

You guys nailed it. 8” jointer is something I would like to have. I already have a table saw that I regret buying and don’t want to make the same mistake with my jointer and band saw buying plans.

I guess I will hold out for a good deal on a 8” jointer. Thanks for weighing in with your thoughts.

I got one in the spring and I feel like Neil and others on here that have it, that it is a good jointer, well made and gets great reviews.

A really good buy for $300, lifetime warranty, and easily half or less than many others out there.

I thought about an 8, but thats 220 power and takes up a lot more space. For the casual hobbyist like me the 6 inch size takes care of most of what I do.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered it. I have been waiting on a deal on this jointer.

I own one of these and I’m very happy with mine. Sure I’d love to have an 8” jointer but then again my shop doesn’t really have the extra room and this one does 98% of everything I need. Enjoy but be prepared for shaving collection because this thing will make a pile in a hurry.

For $300 it’s a nice bargain with not much downside….it’s a good jointer, but is a poor substitute for an 8” if that’s what you want.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on this deal. As you all said, it is a good jointer and great deal that couldn’t be passed.

Now you’ve got a functional jointer to use while you wait for that awesome deal on an 8”! A jointer is a great addition.
