Topic tags/keywords: dust collection festool grin shopvac vacuum

I’ve researched a lot about vacuum motors and I don’t think it’s physically possible to get anywhere near the cfm and water lift numbers that the high end dust extractors claim to get. Bosch claims 150 cfm and something like 99” lift for their vac and the others: festool/fein aren’t far behind. And they do this using a measily 9 amps of power.

The reason I’m questioning them is if you look at central vac motor makers like Ametek-Lamb which publish fan curves for their motors, you have to go to their larger and higher amp draw models to get anywhere near those numbers and still you’d be using more amps. These fan curves show max cfm at 2” orifices whereas the extractors’ hoses probably cap out at 1.5” ID.

So are they lying? If not then why the discrepancy?
