I’m thinking about making my own back saws. I’ve seen lots of info on making your own planes but nothing on saws. Does anyone know where I can get some information?

I was looking at the Gramercy dovetail saw kit at toolsforworkingwood.com which goes over the assembly procedure very well. If anyone has done this the first question I have is how tight to make the interference joint between the brass back and the blade.

Thanks
Che.

Che,
Check out this thread over on woodnet.com. There is some pretty good info about this topic in the hand tools section of that site. There are a few sawmakers that frequently post over there.

Check out the Norse Woodsmith's site. He has some really good instructions for making a backsaw. I plan on building one myself for the large tenon saw I’d like to add to the arsenal soon ;)
