I have a Makita orbital sander , that I have put many miles on. The other day I was distracted and started sanding a sign that had decals and varathane I was removing only to realize I hadn’t replaced the sandpaper, and gumbed up the disc. Now the sand paper won’t stick. I tried using turpentine to remove it but it’s not working. Any suggestions? I know it was a silly thing to do.

You need a new pad. You smoked all the little hooks that hold the sandpapers loops. $15 and you should be back in business. There should be a couple screws that hold it on.
